What shaped Edwin?
Edwin Bosma is an experienced interim CFO and strategic advisor with a broad background in both international consultancy and corporate leadership. He began his career as a consultant in the logistics sector, where he spent four years working on international assignments for the World Bank and the European Community, as well as projects for local banks and institutions.
Edwin then transitioned into the corporate world, joining Batenburg Beheer—listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange—as a controller. Over sixteen years, he served as an executive within multiple business units and as a member of the holding company’s executive board. The group operated across trade, IT, and installation technology throughout the Benelux.
In 2014, he started his independent interim CFO practice, and in 2015 he became one of the first partners at CFO Netwerk. Since then, he has supported medium‑ to large‑sized companies and family businesses with strategic, financial, organizational, and governance‑related challenges. His work spans topics including strategy development, restructuring, refinancing, and navigating complex family‑business dynamics or shareholder disputes.
Edwin is also a registered valuator affiliated with the NIRV and teaches Finance & Control to aspiring supervisory board members at NR Governance.
Insights & Perspectives
Empowering Agility and Accountability
Edwin draws inspiration from the organizational philosophy of Eckart Wintzen, who scaled his company BSO by splitting it into agile units of no more than 50 employees. Empowerment over rules fostered entrepreneurship and engagement—principles that resonate strongly in today’s dynamic, autonomy driven workforce.
The Power of Headwind
Interim CFOs are often brought in to “fix” financial problems. Edwin’s approach goes deeper: he focuses on the underlying causes and embraces a holistic business perspective. Addressing entrenched norms and vested interests often generates resistance—yet this “headwind” is precisely what drives meaningful improvement. Distinguishing between clean wind (constructive challenge) and dirty wind (resistance rooted in self‑interest) is essential to sustainable change.
Anchoring Change
Organizations sometimes revert to old habits once consultants leave—a phenomenon a director once described as “shaping figures out of polystyrene.” Successful transformation requires not only clear processes but also committed people and effective control mechanisms. Edwin emphasizes simplicity and clarity, applying Ockham’s Razor: the simplest solution is usually the most effective.
Character
Edwin is known for his calm, analytical, and reliable leadership style. He quickly identifies core issues and looks beyond financials to uncover opportunities in business models and family‑business relationships.
He works with scenario‑based approaches to help organizations become more resilient and adaptable. His methods are people‑focused, grounded in listening, learning, and shared understanding. Improvements are implemented step by step, anchored securely without losing sight of long‑term objectives.
